Creative Coathanger - Let's Make 2017
‘Creative Coathanger is proud to present a brand new programme of events in its new home at Venue 50. Let’s Make 2017! is a packed month of creative making and thinking. We will be kicking off the programme with the Mapping the Borders exhibition, which is part of this year’s Being Human Festival, which takes place from 17-25th November 2017 as a nationwide celebration of the humanities.
The Scottish Borders is a region formed by its geography and defined by its distinctive small towns, which will form the basis of this project. Places or landscapes are a reflection of culture, and culture in turn can shape the landscape and vice-versa. Short Pecha Kucha talks about its contested history, an exhibition of contemporary art works with art works that explore the notion of ‘border’, two guided walk exploring the human and non-human landscape with a digital app mapping out the literary riches found in the poems of James Hogg and a glass map making workshop revealing the clues describing the changing landscape found in the historical maps of the Scottish Borders.
Being Human is led by the University of London School of Advanced Studies, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the British Academy. Mapping the Borders will be a partnership between the University of Sunderland, Northumbria University, the National Library of Scotland and CABN, Live Borders.
